Do not be a gracious host

Fortunately, mice are not picky guests.  They don’t care if your home is a hoarders home or a museum-like work of art – it’s all the same to the little critters.  They can get into a hole the size of a dime so there are plenty of avenues of entry into your home.  Oftentimes we think they come in through gaping holes but that is just not the case.  They will climb up and come in through attics, basements, improperly sealed doorways, broken screens, foundation, and various pipes leading into the home. Make sure your home is weather-proofed before the bad weather comes so it makes it harder for your small houseguests to move in.

Do not feed your guest if they do make it inside

Just as mice are not picky what type of living accommodations you provide, they are not picky eaters either.  Of course, just like us they love a great piece of bread or a cookie but they are just as happy with anything in your pantry not sealed, bird feed, pet food ,trash left outside and even a compost bin. Keep pet and bird food in sealed containers. Make sure your compost is sealed tightly and not easy for pests to invade.  If you have sources of water such as stagnant water or leaking pipes be sure to fix those as soon as possible to eliminate your new friends from staying longer and thinking you have given them a nice resort for their comfort.

Does your yard look like a nature preserve?  If so, cut that grass and trim those bushes!!

You are welcoming mice and making sure your neighbors despise you if your grass and bushes are so overgrown in could be mistaken as a jungle or nature preserve.  You are inviting them into your house and most likely your neighbors homes by keeping too much overgrown greenery.  Cut your grass and trim bushes regularly.

Have your home treated if mice move in with you.

Mice are very prolific – they reproduce rapidly.  They usually come into the dwelling in the fall when it starts to get cold and by springtime there can be hundreds in the walls.  They chew on insulation from the electrical wires and create a fire hazard.  They also can carry the Hanta Virus which is fatal to humans.  Mickey and Minnie are cute, house mice are not.  Our techs are bright, insightful problem solvers so our work is superior.  Call State Termite and Pest Solutions at 330-494-6199 to help you get rid of your unwanted house guests before it’s too overwhelming.
